Intelligent Travel Card Leveraging Blockchain Technology: A Precautionary Measure Against Contagious Illnesses Such as COVID-19

Abstract


A smart card is a small, plastic card with embedded integrated circuit chips that can store and process data. These cards are used for various applications, including identification, authentication, and transactions. Smart cards resemble typical cards in appearance, being rectangular, compact, and lightweight. The difference between them lies in their intelligence. These cards incorporate a microprocessor housing a memory chip, enabling them to store significant amounts of data and facilitating both reading and writing operations. The purpose of this study is to safeguard traveller information, including their trip history, by presenting an architecture for a smart travel card that combines the smart card concept and blockchain technology. The suggested concept makes use of smart cards to hold citizen data, including an encrypted template of their biometric features for user verification, technologies for iris and fingerprint recognition, and all relevant trip information. Additionally, the advantages of a blockchain network are taken advantage of to confirm the legitimacy of user transactions and the veracity of the document's authenticity. Along with describing the block structure, transaction types, and blockchain strategy for the smart travel card, the blockchain network architecture is also described.
