Abstract

Photovoltaic (PV) power is a renewable energy source which enact a dominant role in electric power generation. It has become essential nowadays on account of the inadequacy and environmental brunt of conventional fuels. Solar photovoltaic based energy generation meets an important substitute for many purposes with the features of being clean, environment friendly, non-exhaustible, sustainable and available in throughout the world. Conversion of renewable energy into electricity improves the generation and reduces the CO2 emission. When it comes to PV power generation, it mainly depends on temperature and solar irradiation. Since the current-voltage characteristic curve changes with the solar irradiation and temperature dynamically. So that to harvest maximum solar energy at a distinct point it is imperative to control the photovoltaic generation. Therefore, an MPPT algorithm is needed to estimate the effective operation of photovoltaic power generation. In this paper, to harvest maximum available power from the PV panel the perturb and observe (P&O) maximum power point tracking algorithm is used and implement it by utilizing zeta converter. The reason behind of choosing this converter is its essential properties of fast response, simple circuit, very large range of power tracking efficiency etc. The analysis is carried out on MATLAB/Simulink software.
