Abstract

ABSTRACT
Development of sustainable solutions to the problems associated with agriwaste management is the need of the hour. These wastes have immense potential to be converted into fuels that act as renewable sources of energy. Conversion of agricultural residues to biogas is an ideal remedy. However, the complex nature of the microbial populations carrying out this conversion leads to gaps in understanding the biochemical process. This limits our potential to improve the performance and efficiency of the process. In this study, we have reviewed the applications of Information Technology and Bioinformatics in unveiling the interplay of bacteria in a biogas reactor, which can fill the gaps.

Keywords: agriwaste management, biogas, metagenomics, methanogens
