As the cyber-attacks are becoming more complex and sophisticated new solutions are required to support mission critical systems to maintain their availability. To maintain working condition of the network, to defend against the attacks and to retaliate, cyber operators need to maintain Situational Awareness(SA) of the network. In this paper we have presented state of the art of Cyber Situational Awareness. Cyber operators working at different levels in an organization depending upon their respective goal have different requirement of information to maintain cyber SA. To provide the requisite level of cyber SA there are various challenges which must be outlined before embarking on development of such system. These challenges have been explored. Various important models have been compared for their effectiveness along with the specific techniques used for their implementation. In the end we have explored future research directions in this field.
